Proven Expertise
Bioganix are specialists in the handling of biodegradable waste
and we have pioneered ‘in vessel’ composting since bringing our
first facility into operation in February 2002.
Rather than operate a traditional ‘open air’ or ‘covered windrow’ system
of composting, we use a unique process for composting food industry
and local authority waste ‘in vessel’.
In contrast to traditional systems, the Bioganix ‘in
vessel’ system is fully approved and licensed
by the State Veterinary Services and the Environment Agency for
processing meat and fish waste products.

Compost Production
Taking around 100 hours, compost production is subject to rigorous
temperature control and the introduction of specific bacterial
cultures.
Constant monitoring and the independent testing of the compost
guarantees a high-quality end product.
A major aspect of controlling the process is ensuring that the
mixture is balanced, in the same way as blending occurs in the
brewing industry.
Another vital area of management is odour control which
has a high priority for Bioganix, and we are leading the field
in this area. The Bioganix system incorporates sophisticated
chemical and biological odour management technology.

Types of Waste
The Bioganix process is designed to handle
a wide range of organic waste streams from source separated domestic
material (green and/or kitchen waste) to “hard-to-handle” liquid
waste from the food processing sector. A number of our
customers also ask us to compost contaminated paper and cardboard
in conjunction with food waste products.
Unlike many other composting processes, the
Bioganix in-vessel system is designed to handle the difficult
food waste fractions. Our
odour management processes have been designed to neutralise the
smell from the most odorous waste streams such as feathers and
fish.
Some customers whose
waste could go directly to landfill, choose to send it to Bioganix
where it is composted and recycled, in line with their company’s environmental responsibilities. |
